Mission Statement

“The Convention and Visitor Bureau is organized as a Non-Profit corporation operating for the purpose of attracting overnight visitors and conventions to the community and therefore advancing the economic impact such visitors and conventions have upon the entire community.”

What is the St. James Convention & Visitor Bureau?

Convention and Visitor Bureaus are non-profit organizations helping the long-term development of communities through a travel and tourism strategy. Convention and Visitor Bureaus bring together businesses that rely on tourism for revenue.

Funding for the St. James CVB comes from a local lodging tax that is collected from visitors staying at the local hotel and city campground. The current lodging tax in St. James is 1%.

Why is tourism important?

Travel and tourism enhances the quality of life for a local community by providing jobs, bringing in tax dollars for improvement of services, and attracting facilities like restaurants, shops, festivals, and sporting venues that cater to both visitors and locals. Not only is tourism important, it is even more important for St. James because small towns and their surrounding communities are becoming smaller and less attractive on a map to tourists. It is up to our CVB to highlight the great attributes that we offer here in St. James, such as the 4 mile paved bike trail, the outdoor pool and slide, the skate park, the 18 Hole Golf course, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, the variety of restaurants, the shopping and our historical sites. If you think about it, St. James does have a lot to offer its visitors. Let’s promote what we have by enriching the lives of others and the community. One of our favorite quotes, and something we truly believe is: “If you enrich the lives of others without personal gain the rewards will come.”
